Chris Conway and Dan Britton are a powerful combination demonstrated to anyone who has caught them live, or heard their albums.

Chis Conway is best known as the multi-instrumental wizard in the Vikki Clayton Band. He has worked with members of Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention, Talvin Singh and toured with Monkee Peter Tork. He has made 8 songs albums, several acclaimed in Q Magazine, Mojo, and Time Out.

Dan Britton has played with Jackie Leven and Cathy Lesurf and has supported the likes of the Saw Doctors and Dick Gaughan. He has released several nationally acclaimed albums and featured on Radio 2 as lead singer with the Katy Lied project. A passionate performer, his powerful voice and stage presence immediately attracts attention.

Together they have toured the UK, supported Bob Geldof. Frances Black, Jefferson Starship, Country Joe McDonald, and Roy Wood.

As well as their song sets, they also are part of the popular Celtic band Govannen.

Blending American and Celtic styles, and between them playing guitars, Irish whistles, keyboards, bodhran, kalimbas as well as their fantastically strong vocals, they have the unique ability to sound like a full band. They rock!

Both are strong singers, considerably talented songwriters and excellent musicians so it's hardly surprising that the self-penned material is of typically high quality.

Conway/Britton played a 45 minute set at Kontra Roots Club in Earls Barton, Northants. It was our first gig in 18 months - we had a rehearsal just the day before!.

All went well on a hot night and we closed the night that included great sets by Stevie Jones, CarterDolby, & Steve Jinski.

Our set wasn't quite what we originally planned, but we went with the flow. We even played Satan Park Mall from our latest album Wonder for the first time as an encore!

This is Leicester-based Chris Conway’s thirteenth collection of solo songs. Recorded during lockdown (ironically, Chris reckons the social restrictions facilitated a certain kind of freedom as a songwriter), he says, ‘In all the diversity of styles, I was surprised to find [when the recording was finished] that many songs shared a common theme… of cycles of life, beginnings and/or endings.’

There’s also the regular Conway mix of West Coast singer-songwriter (an impressive, despite the title, ‘A Song About Nothing’), jazz, bossa nova and Celtic styles threaded throughout, with some typical sci-fi humour (‘Let’s Go To Outer Space’) and rather more of his excellent piano than might otherwise have been expected. Lockdown time reminded Chris that the piano is indeed his first instrument, normally constrained in its use by guitar-based songwriting tailored to his live work.

Diverse, mellifluous, sophisticated and skilfully arranged and produced by this one-man band cum studio, Conway’s first solo songs album Sounds Like Rain in 1995 was an exceptionally fine calling card, and since then he has been consistently true to his musical vision. Unlocked Songs confirms yet again what an exceptional talent he is.

Dan's 4th solo album Fire Horse is released on Bandcamp, where you can hear the album, buy a download, and order the CD!
The album includes remastered versions of his singles Joe Alone and Sins As Red As Scarlet, and a bunch great of new songs.Returning from past album is bassist Neil Segrott, and drummer Gavin Hall. Chris Conway appears on 1 track, and on a short final track Bob Cheevers recites text and a sample of the late Jackie Leven's voice is heard.

Lately CC has been playing a 15 minute set every Thursday on Facebook at The Virtual Monday Music Club.
He's made a playlist on YouTube where you can see all of his streamed sets - filmed straight to his phone (he has a nice phone!) - 14 little sets at time of writing. He tries to play different songs each time, so each video will be different. It's been fun dseeing what old and forgotten songs he'll choose each week. :-)

Dan has released a new EP featuring a companion song with anotther historical novel by Janet Few, following the success of Barefoot On The Cobbles. Sins As Red As Scarlet is about 3 women in a Devon town in 1684 who are sentenced to the gallows for the crime of witchcraft.

Chris plays keyboards, whistles and harmony vocals on it.

Also included is Magical Time, plus a new arrangement of The Snow And The Fire.

Chris Conway & Dan Britton's new album Wonder - CD pre-release copies are now available from mid-November from the paypal button on the Wonder CD web page and from Bandcamp(where pre-release downloads are also available.)

Officially it will be released it in January 2020 (so it will be a "2020 release" all year :-) ) so download and streaming from sites other than Bandcamp will be available in early January 2020.

Better Times In Sight was first recorded as a bonus track on the 1999 re-release of his 1995 debut songs album Sounds Like Rain. The new version has Chris Conway, Dan Britton, and special guest Sally Barker each take a verse each and harmonizing in the choruses just as they did many times on their 2018 tour together.

Magical Time is a one of Dan Britton's best loved songs. It was also first recorded on Dan's 1998 debut solo album Riding The Red, White and Black Horses. It's been in the Conway Britton live set for a long time and it paints a picture of halcyon days of Dan's youth, and ours too.

It was cool playing at a proper bigfestival - A New Day Festival was down in Faversham, Kent - Left home at 7.15am and back home at 7.15pm for a 40 minute set!

Went well though, nice to see old friends, a good crowd, and we sold 24CDs and CC met Focus's Pierre van der Linden backstage.

It was our first at this kind of festival in quite a while but nerves settled in after a couple of songs. I got through the tricky Leaf Boat Dreams with no lyric lapses for the first time - Yay! We had great sound from our chum Neil Segrott. The set just seemed to breeze by. More photos when we get them.

Chris and Dan celebrate twenty-five years of working together, in Safe Harbour, the pair’s third album as a duo. They’ve also pursued active solo careers during that time, with Conway in particular a prolific songwriter, composer and recording artist across an array of styles, while both play in Celtic outfit, Govannen.

Safe Harbour, released on Conway’s own label, is a fine collection of songs – six from Conway and five from Britton. There’s also a cover of Charles Kingsley and Garnet Rogers’s ‘Three Fishers’, which references the 1838 Clovelly fishing disaster, as does opening track ‘The Storm’ from the pen of Britton, three of whose ancestors perished when twelve boats and twenty-six men left for the herring fishing grounds; only one vessel would return after a storm in the Bristol Channel.

Much of Britton’s material draws its strength from his West Country roots and personal experience (‘Song For Eric’ is about the death of a friend) while Conway’s reveals something of the musical and spiritual traveller. His near-seven-minutes-long ‘Magical Rooms’ is arguably the album’s standout track, reflecting on what makes him who he is and how he got there.

The entire album is a delight, though – satisfyingly rootsy in places (fiddles, mandolin, Irish whistles, bodhran, kalimba and more contributing to the overall mood) with a little jazzy piano here and there in the mix. Strong songs are graced by warm, mellow voices, often in ambitious arrangements, and all beautifully produced in Conway’s home studio. David White - R2 Magazine

Studio album by singer songwriters & multi-instrumentalists Chris Conway & Dan Britton - their first duo studio album in 15 years!

Despite being very busy with Celtic band Govannen, Chris & Dan had never stopped playing concerts of their own songs in a duo, often augmented by Neil Rabjohn's percussion. But they never had the time to go back to the studio.

Sometime around the start of 2016, Dan had recorded a couple of songs with Chris about his family history which were put out on Youtube. Then they started to really enjoy the duo concerts. Somewhere along the line they decided to write some news songs, combine them with songs from their solo albums that were firm favourites in their live set, and record them. This they did here and there throughout 2016, with Chris adding more to the ones Dan had originally recorded. Then suddenly it was done.

 The CC & DB concert at Joules Yard, Market Harborough was a treat - Accompanied on percussion by Govannen chum Neil Rabjohn, there was a great sound and fab audience ona chilly night in April. Dan & I introduced a new song* each, and the old ones felt really fresh as we hadn't done a dynmamic duo set ina while. It was fab to see so many chums in the audience - thanks to all who came to see us. It certainly gave us the enthuisiasm to get on with recording a new album and get some more concerts.
