Explorations
7 improvisations on a range of instruments.
background
After the Covid-19 virus changed the world, and my world, I found for a while that I couldn't focus on playing music.
Then one day I just picked up an instrument and played, then another, and so on. I kept each set up quite simple. I just kept the first take, as they seemed to capture the rawness and strange atmosphere these times generated, especially in those opening weeks.
It felt good to explore again. For example, I'd not played my electric 9 string guitar like this in years. Lately I'd been using it just for textures in a song or ambient music, but here I was just following wherever it took me.
This time I felt I had to do things differently.
The result is a powerful set of pieces that aren't like anything I've done before. Freedom, boldness, and a bit of darkness.
